Getting Started

Starting your journey with mod.io is easy. In just a few simple steps you'll be able to offer your players a seamless user-generated content (UGC) experience on any platform.

Setup Journey Map

ALEX NOTE: I built this in Canva to give a clear layout of the starter journey. Not 100% on brand guidelines as I am no designer so may need a Thib gloss.

Step 1: Set up a Game Account

Your Game Account acts as the hub for all user-generated content. To create an account, click the “get started” button on the mod.io homepage where you'll be prompted to link a trusted service, such as Steam or Google, or sign up using an email.

You'll then be able to establish the main UGC parameters for your game. As you set up your profile, use the ? buttons for more information when in doubt. With mod.io, you have full control over what content your users can create and experience within your game.

tip

You can change your settings (including game name) at any time via your Game Admin Settings on the My Content page.

Preview system: Your game will be hidden automatically when you first create your Game Account. This is done to give you time to prepare and test your mod.io settings ahead of launching your game with UGC. We recommend keeping your game hidden until it is ready to launch. To give your team access to a hidden game, use our Preview system in the Road to Launch guide. If your title is already released and you require a private environment for testing purposes, you can also set up a second hidden game profile.

Step 2: Connect to mod.io

To unlock UGC in your game, the next step is to integrate the mod.io API. For this, you'll need the keys to the kingdom. Locate your API Key in the “API” section of your Game Admin Settings, as this will ensure the API can identify your title.

note

The REST API powers all our UGC functions. Connecting to the API enables you to integrate the mod.io UGC experience.

All games are designed differently, and we offer support for a variety of builds. From here, select one of three pathways to begin integration:

Choose your engine standin boxes

ALEX NOTE: Mockup of these boxes as three in one line as I think it effectively shows the options. Would require frontent work to tinker if going for this option.

Step 3: Expand with cross-platform functionality

Our service is a recognized middleware solution that spans a variety of platforms. To add a platform, you'll first need to gain approval from your platform's account manager. Once you're connected, our service works behind the scenes to streamline the cross-platform UGC experience.

Console

Set up UGC for PlayStation®4, PlayStation®5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2.

PC

Set up UGC for Steam and Epic Games on desktop or handheld devices.

Mobile/Tablet

Set up UGC for Google and Apple devices.

VR/AR

ALEX NOTE: I plan to create landing pages for these links. Currently all lead to Console.
